Welcome message

Assoc. Prof. Georgi Tomov

Assoc.Prof. G. Tomov,
Congress President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In 2019 the beautiful city of Plovdiv will become at the same time European capital of culture and European capital of laser dentistry.

We are delighted to invite you to attend the 17th International Congress of ISLD in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, from 6 – 8 June 2019.

The theme of the congress “Laser Technologies and Translation to Clinical Practice” was chosen to address two major challenges in the field of laser dentistry i.e. fast progress in new technologies and barriers to evidence based application of new discoveries in day to day clinical practice.

Within Congress program, round table debates, workshops and short oral presentation sessions will address cutting edge topics. Several promising new technologies are on the horizon in laser dentistry and this Congress will provide an ideal forum to exchange knowledge related to these innovations in order to advance the field.

Educational sessions and practical courses will be offered on pragmatic topics that are of immediate relevance from research and clinical practice perspective to clinicians.

In addition, as a city of art and history, Plovdiv offers many wonderful social and tourist activities. Stroll the old town, explore the Roman amphitheater and the medieval basilicas, enjoy the museums and galleries, and sample the local wines and specialties – all these experiences and many more are within a few minutes’ walk of the conference venue.

We are looking forward welcoming you in Plovdiv!

Sincerely yours,

Assoc. Prof. Georgi Tomov, DMD, PhD

Prof. Norbert Gutknecht,
ISLD President and Scientific Chairman

Dear Friends and Collegues,

It is a great honour and pleasure for me to cordially invite you to our ISLD Congress in Plovdiv, for an unforgettable experience where technology and culture goes hand in hand and join to create an outstanding event. Throughout history we can see that the greatest architectural, technological and scientific achievements were made where human culture was advanced. Plovdiv the oldest city of Europe, established 4000 years ago, celebrates this year its selection as European Capital of Culture. There will be many attractive events all year around where people from all over Europe and other parts of the world will come to Plovdiv to enjoy magnificent events and art work of hundred artists. Therefore, it was only natural that Plovdiv, the European Capital of Culture for 2019, was unanimously selected as the site for for the 17th world Laser Congress of ISLD. The International Society for Laser Dentistry (ISLD) was established in Japan in 1988. Thirty years later the ISLD celebrated its Pearl Anniversary during the Laser Dentistry World Congress held in Aachen Germany. The Congress was a great success and more then 540 participants from 43 countries enjoyed a high level of scientific presentations, warm hospitality and a friendly atmosphere. It was indeed an unforgeable event and an ideal time where the stage was set for the revitalisation of our prestigious Dental Laser Society. I and many other colleagues representing numerous national dental laser societies were determined to place ISLD as an outstanding scientific organisation in laser dentistry. We are very encouraged to see more and more new membership applications. Colleagues from all over the world are happy to join ISLD and the number of national laser societies that choose to be part of our organization is constantly growing. I believe that all of us, denal laser users worldwide, would like to see a bright future for Laser Dentistry. Your participation in our upcoming ISLD Congress which will take place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria 6-8, June, 2019 is essential to strengthen ISLD which is striving to enrich the knowledge of its members and to promote professional excellence in the use of lasers through science research and education. Prof. Georgi Tomov our organizing Chairman and his team, together with the Bulgarian Society for Laser Dentistry are already in full action and look forward to hosting us in their attractive city. I also look forward to seeing you joining us in a great celebration of science and art under the umbrella of ISLD, the leading World Laser Dentistry Organization in beautiful Plovdiv, the European Capital of Culture for 2019.

Welcome to Plovdiv 2019,
Prof. Norbert Gutknecht
ISLD President and Scientific Chairman

Er:YAG laser-assisted implantology

Assist. Prof. Nikolay Nikolov and Assoc. Prof. Georgi Tomov

Theoretical part (120 min)

Technological advances and improvements have increased the choices of the available Er:YAG laser systems in dental practice. Among them, a LiteTouch Er:YAG laser possesses unique characteristics. LiteTouch is preferred for many different procedures in implantology due to its ergonomic design and clinical effectiveness. The unique benefit of LiteTouch laser surgery is the re-engineering of the wound healing process – the laser promotes releasing of growth factors and inhibitors of the inflammation.

The educational objective of the lecture is to summarize the advantages and current clinical applications of LiteTouch Er:YAG laser in implant therapy. All aspects of laser-assisted implantology will be covered and illustrated with clinical cases – flap surgery, granulation tissue ablation, bone recontouring and biostimulation.

Clinical demonstration and discussion (120 min)

The clinical demonstration includes laser-assisted implant insertion (ITI Consensus type 4) for restoring tooth 21. Significant details like laser-assisted crevicular incision, granulation tissue ablation, dekeratinization of the soft tissue collar contact to the peri-implant interface, laser-assisted osteotomy in the area of the buccal cortical plate for creating nutrient foramina, as well as laser mark of a drill site will be demonstrated and discussed. Laser-assisted gingival pocket curettage and root surface modification of the adjacent teeth (11 and 22) will be also performed. Bone graft and membranes can be included in the protocol if indicated. CAD-CAM immediate loading within two hours is also planned.
